Rat sightings and other troublesome vermin are becoming more and more common in cities. Arnold is no different. To avoid attracting unwanted pests into your neighborhood it is important we all do our part in keeping our yards, alleys and streets clear of garbage, sources of water and tree and building material debris which can be used as nests for these pests. Make sure to place all garbage into a sturdy 32-gallon trash can with a lid. Plastic bags alone will easily be broken into and the garbage scattered by animals, which will attract much more dangerous animals, such as mice and rats. Stagnant water will pond in discarded tires and garden pots that will provide a source of water for pests to drink and for mosquitoes to lay eggs in, which when hatched are carriers of the Zika virus, Bird Flu, and many other dangerous viral infections. Even bird baths are risky, and should have mosquito dunks or should get dumped and changed twice weekly.
The end of summer and early fall is the time when fruit trees drop their fruits, which if left there, will become a source of food for pests. Please do your part and keep your yard and alley free from these attractants that only fuel the problem. Let's keep Arnold a great place to live!
